The Lowdown on Tuesday’s Weather Forecast
I wrote to Jerry Stenger to ask about this mention of more winter weather in Tuesday’s forecast. Here’s his response:
It seems that another winter storm is coming on the heels of the 15.7 inches of snow and sleet Charlottesville received on Friday and Saturday.
At this time, it looks like we could pick up a few more inches of snow starting by midday Tuesday and ending the following afternoon. Unlike the last event, this one looks like it’ll be all snow, perhaps something in the 3- to 6-inch range.
The total snowfall recorded at McCormick Observatory so far this season (52.2 inches) is only 2.5 inches below the all time record from 1995-96. This upcoming storm could well break that record.
McCormick’s observations go back some 120 years, and that means we’re making some serious weather history.

So what is the plan and recommendation to students and faculty who live off campus? Getting in today was hazardous and was not an experience that I would personally desire to repeat, especially with the knowledge that the amount of show is forcasted to increase. Advice?
