Board of Visitors Meeting To Be Viewable Online

Tomorrow’s Board of Visitors meeting to consider the reinstatement of President Teresa A. Sullivan will be held in the board room at the Rotunda. Although it is scheduled as an open session, there is very little room inside. (The file photo below, taken by UVA Today”s Cole Geddy at a routine meeting last September, gives you some idea of the space available along the outer walls of the room.)

However, given the enormous interest in the proceedings, the meeting will be streamed live on the Internet. The meeting will be viewable here (though that link will not be active until the meeting’s 3 p.m. start) and on the U.Va. Facebook page.

I’m so pleased that this meeting will be viewable by all. If in fact they never go into “executive session”, the outcome will surely be to sustain the Sullivan presidency. Three cheers for openness and transparency.

Bruce brings up a good point — if the board goes into executive session, the cameras will be switched off.

The Board of Visitors ensures our University remains a beacon of hope and justice. Thomas Jefferson began this institution to nurture the minds of it’s students, and continue to aid faculty in the discovery of truth. The students of this University, many of whom are out from summer break, have supported President Sullivan and believe she is the leader that can lead us into a new era at this university, please don’t take away our hope…This university is an educational masterpiece. Please fight to keep it that way!
