New School Year, New UVA Today

While the University is busy welcoming its new and returning students, we at UVA Today headquarters have something new of our own: A new UVA Today home page.

(It even has a new URL — www.news.virginia.edu  — although you will automatically be forwarded from the old one.)

For you the reader, the bolder, brighter page offers more stories and photos, delivered faster, and more readable text. There are new pages, including Groundswire, which pulls in news from other areas around the University, and Working@UVA, a page specifically for the University community.

Behind the scenes, the page is powered by a whole new Drupal-based content management system, which promises to make life a lot easier for us.

As with all new Web endeavors, we’re going through a little bit of a shakedown cruise; sometimes, you just don’t find all the glitches until something goes live. If you have some feedback for us, please drop us a line.

So check it out, kick the tires and let us know what you think. It was all done in house (special thanks to Drupal Goddess Kristy Moon), so it should be easy to tweak.

Alright! This is beautiful — I have to admit…that old website was an eyesore in the landscape of UVa’s sites. This new one is a great public face!

I also loved the Alumni Association’s new page… http://alumni.virginia.edu/ …seems like there has been a big push recently to modernize, at long last. Love it!

    Wahoowa!
