Internship May Lead to Patent for Computer Science Student

It used to be that summer interns fetched coffee and lurked in the background, hoping to absorb some tidbit of useful knowledge. Maybe it still is in some places.
Monika Khot? The third-year computer science student in U.Va.’s College of Arts & Sciences spent her summer internship at Boeing Research & Technology in Seattle, where she helped to program and implement a machine learning system that has been entered into the patent process. Yep, her name is on the invention disclosure form, alongside the aerospace giant’s own engineers.
Boeing’s corporate site has the story (along with the awesome picture above, snapped by Boeing’s Marian Lockhart).
Who else has an interesting summer internship story to share?
